ORPHAN & VULNERABLE CHILDREN
Neither words nor statistics can adequately capture the human tragedy of children grieving for dying or dead parents stigmatized by society through association with HIV/AIDS, plunged into economic crisis and insecurity by their parents death, and struggling without services or support systems in impoverished communities (UNICEF 1999,8).

In response to the deepening crisis of orphan and vulnerable children in our target area, Tapologo in collaboration with Heartbeat, Neobirth Crisis Centre and the Tsholofelo Community College are developing a model for the care of orphaned and vulnerable children by collaborating efforts in the Bojanala District (Rustenburg Local Municipality [RLM]) to efficiently and effectively deal with the problem in a holistic approach.

This project is aiming at providing a community based framework and capacity to allow these self same communities to deal with the OVC situation prevalent in their communities. The model is similar to that of our Outreach Programme which has proved successful.

The elements of this programme are briefly:

OVC Outreach Programme
Family, OVC and Community Capacity Building, Education and Awareness Workshops
Community Foster Care Model
Youth Skills Development Programme
Nutrition Programme
Support Groups
